The Key To Adding Warmth & Personality To Your Home

Modern, sleek, clean and industrial lines are undoubtedly attractive and popular in interior design. The minimalist style is great if you’re into uncluttered spaces, but it can be a bit too sterile and in need of some warmth. Now, by adding some warmth, I don’t mean temperature. The sunny Saskatoon weather will keep you plenty warm! We’re talking about adding some personality to your space, and here’s how:

Flares of Colour

No matter the style of the space, adding splashes of colour here and there will always do wonders. Bright pops of colour in the trim, fun wallpaper, curtains, pillows, decor and the like are great to liven up a space. If neutrals are more your thing, mixing in materials like woods and live plants is fantastic at adding a little something without being overwhelming.

Hints of Texture

Using contrast in design is powerful. If the space has a lot of steel, glass, concrete and other more smooth surfaces, adding more heavily textured materials helps neutralize anything that feels too impersonal. Throw blankets and pillows are easy and affordable to incorporate texture or consider adding a more unusual statement piece like macramé wall art. Swapping out curtains with the seasons is a fantastic way to incorporate texture; lighter materials like linen for warm weather have an airier feel, whereas heavy fabrics like velvet add coziness for colder weather.

Severely underrated is the coffee table. Your coffee table is the heart of the living room, so add some sculptural pieces or hardcover books to show off your personality and interests. Bold coffee tables are also sensational conversation starters.

The Furniture & Fixtures

The furniture and fixtures can prove to be your most significant servants when conveying a feeling. The impact of a modern black leather sofa with straight lines and a fabric sofa with curved lines of various colours are different, and the latter adds more warmth to the space. Trying a quirky seat like a hanging pod chair also spices up the area with a little wow factor.

Lighting is also a severely underrated tool for adding warmth and an aesthetically pleasing image to a space. Switching out warm or cool-toned bulbs or fixtures provides an instant facelift. Emphasize artwork with lighting; such fixtures are inexpensive, making it an easy step to add a luxurious feel. Something as simple as switching out hardware for cabinets also has the potential to change the sense of a space drastically.

For Something Extra Special

Bring the outside in and clean the air while you’re at it with the life of simple greenery or some pretty flower arrangements. Flowers also offer a pleasant aroma that can be uplifting, so along with that note, consider your nose and add a few candles to the mix! Like to work with your hands? I’ve got you covered!
