It’s February and the long weekend Family Day Weekend! So time to get out and enjoy some Saskatoon “Sun Day, Fun Day, Brrrr Day”!
It will be COOL in more ways than one! Temperatures are going to be in the -20 to -30 range so make sure that everyone is bundled up for all the fun activities Saskatoon has to offer. This is a favourite weekend as it’s been a while since getting together with family and friends during the Christmas season. Prairie people love to get together to socialize and enjoy winter activities as we “Eat Again!” Yes – we do love to feed everyone who gets anywhere near our homes!
Out comes everything from sausage, cheese, crackers to perogies, cabbage rolls and, of course, desserts.
The City of Saskatoon has a Guide to Family Day Weekend with indoor and outdoor activities that can be fun for everyone, and the best part some are FREE!
If you need to get out of the cold, stop by the Saskatoon Famer’s Market for a coffee, lunch or a fantastic dessert from one of the many food vendor’s. Check out the numerous one of a kind surprises that you’ll find as you stroll past booth after booth. There’s always something for everyone – handmade soaps, jewelry, pickles, dips, home baked bread, pies, deserts, arts and crafts
And ….. I just found a webpage that lists places that lets “Kids Eat Free”
Prairie Land Park is also the host to a number of attractions this weekend including “The Indoor RV Show”. Believe it or not the warm weather is not that far away so may be time to start looking for the perfect RV for your summer “get away”. “Nutana Lions Flea Market” is known as Saskatchewan’s largest indoor flea market with over 2000 booths offering new and used items. “Kings Court Spring Fling Trade Show features exclusively local businesses including entrepreneurs, jewelers, crafters, bakers show casing a multitude of local products and talents. The 8th annual Saskatchewan Equine Expo is on this weekend, as well, and is the perfect venue for long-time owners or those thinking about getting their first horse.
Big hockey fan – Blades home game tonight with an 8:00 start time.
The Rush are in Vancouver on Saturday taking on the Vancouver Warriors.
Definitely, lots to do this Family Day Weekend!
If it’s just too cold to enjoy the outdoor activities and you prefer to stay home, get out the Monopoly game, a deck of cards or the good old Crokinole board (yes, they’re still around!) and get the fun started with an old fashioned game night!
So, have fun, lots of laughter, happiness on a good old Saskatoon long winter weekend and stay warm!
