Get Your Caffeine Fix at these Local Cafes in Saskatoon this Summer

Summer is finally here! It’s time to get outside, go for a walk around the river, visit your favourite local coffee shop or sit on a sunny patio. Cafes are always a staple when it comes to much needed catch-up dates with dear friends and family, as well as a great option for meeting with clients. There is just something about a piping hot cup of coffee (or latte) and a delicious dessert that never fails to break the ice. It’s no secret that Saskatoon has many amazing local cafes with something special of their own to offer, but how do you pick just one? Lucky for you, I have created a concise list of my absolute favourite cafes to help inspire your decision!

Little Bird Patisserie: This hidden gem is located in “The Shoppe” overlooking the river beside the Remai art gallery. The atmosphere is very hip with gorgeous, fresh pink flowers hanging from the ceiling. Little Bird has a variety of different French-inspired pastries and desserts, ranging from flavour-infused croissants to macarons. Book a high tea for a fun and fancy outing with friends or family, it is sure to impress anyone’s palette. It is located near downtown and is just steps away from shopping, the theatre and other inspiring shops.

City Perks & Sparrow: The popular main location, City Perks is located just off 7th avenue north in City Park. The demand for delicious treats helped City Perks expand to a sister location on 2nd avenue in 2020.  Both locations boast great outdoor seating for the summer, especially with City Perks’ stunning deck with overhanging trees. The homemade food is amazing at both locations, with lots of dessert varieties. breakfast, and lunch specials. Plus, they create their menu items with ingredients from local producers and other bakeries around Saskatoon. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and whenever I see the cookie dough cheesecake in the display case, it’s a no-brainer! City and Sparrow are walkable from downtown with great amenities around, such as gyms, shopping and other great establishments.

The Night Oven: This is another wonderful bakery that you will need to put on your “To-Do” list for when they open their new Avenue D location! I can’t wait to dig into their scrumptious macarons, flaky croissants and a variety of delectable loaves of bread enveloped by the smells of their lovely wood fire oven and baked goods. The staff is always super welcoming and the seating area is cozy. I recommend the brioche bread for Sunday morning fluffy french toast and ham!

Botte Chai Cafe: A top brunch stop in Saskatoon! It is nestled away in Riversdale, on Avenue B S. The Persian food is delicious with various brunch, lunch, supper, dessert and drink options. For something hot, I recommend the bottomless Persian brewed tea or the Raspberry Punch as the perfect refresher on a hot day! This is one of the few Cafes in Saskatoon open late, until 11:00 pm, which makes it a great late-night study spot for students. There is a small outdoor seating space, and it is near a lot of other nice shops and yummy restaurants. If you love to try new and interesting flavours, then you absolutely must visit!

Now I know you’re ready to ditch that boring Timmies order and try some quality, hand-crafted drinks and treats from these fabulous local gems! And the best part? All selected shops are extremely walkable from downtown and just a tiny selection of all the fabulous options to be found in Saskatoon.
