5 Interior Design Trends for 2023

New year, new me, new design trends! Time to refresh your home with significant design trends that will remain classics for years.

Feature Walls

Feature walls are a great way to add texture and intrigue to a room without breaking the bank. A simple painted wall can bring in a splash of colour, fun fresh wallpaper, or splurge on an intricate wooden wall. Stylized intricate wood walls have gained popularity throughout 2022 and are an attractive way to add layered texture to a room while keeping a neutral colour palette.

Statement Furniture

Furniture doesn’t have to be boring and simply utilitarian. Unique or retro furniture pieces engage the visual senses and add flare to any room. Show off your personality by selecting a few pieces you aren’t conventionally drawn to. Adding furniture with a unique texture to a room can elevate it to another level. Also, check out pieces featuring velvet, which is another popular texture this year.

Colour

Bold colours remain a popular choice in 2023, much like last year. Navy, greens and chocolates are still going strong. However, design is leaning in favour of personal style rather than trends. Neutral colour palettes are still in style, giving any space a modern, sleek look. We are all individuals; some will go bold, while others remain tranquil and low-key in their colour choices.

Lighting

So long recessed lighting and hello to fun and fresh light fixtures. Whether looking at vintage swags or new modern funky lights—it’s an excellent way to elevate your space. Dramatic light, such as a chandelier or pendants in a dining room or kitchen, creates the feeling of upscale design. Under the top cabinets or toe kick lighting in a bathroom or kitchen will brighten the entire space. Some can even change colour for any setting or mood. There are a variety of fun lighting options to choose from, from budget-friendly secondhand finds to high-end.

Flexible Floor Plans

The last few years have been challenging for everyone, and builders are finally going away from the mundane one-tone floor layouts. The most sought-after layout comes from homeowners and builders alike: butler pantries/back kitchens. An addition like a butler pantry is nice to have storage and appliances out of direct sight while still being in arms reach.

Other widespread changes to layouts are workout spaces, flex work-from-home areas, and media/music listening rooms. The typical 2-bedroom home with an office is a thing of the past. Now we are seeing more custom rooms than ever before.

The good news is that these trends are applicable on a budget or as high-end as you want them to be. If you want a design refresh in 2023, consider executing these throughout your home.
